TYPES OF
HAZARD/
EXPOSURE
ACUTE HAZARDS/
SYMPTOMS
PREVENTION FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Flammable. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames, NO sparks, and NO smoking.
Powder, AFFF, foam, carbon dioxide. NO hydrous agents. NO water.
EXPLOSION Above 54░C explosive vapour/air mixtures may be formed.
Above 54░C use a closed system, ventilation, and explosion-proof electrical equipment.
In case of fire: cool drums, etc., by spraying with water but avoid contact of the substance with water.
EXPOSURE

  • INHALATION

  • Ventilation.
    Fresh air, rest.
  • SKIN
  • Redness.
    Protective gloves.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower. Refer for medical attention.
  • EYES
  • Redness. Pain.
    Safety spectacles.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION
  • Abdominal pain.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Rinse mouth. Refer for medical attention.
SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
Ventilation. Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place (extra personal protection: filter respirator for organic gases and vapours).
    Fireproof. See Chemical Dangers. Dry.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
    COLOURLESS LIQUID

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on heating or on burning producing toxic fumes including phosphorous oxides. Reacts with water, acids and strong oxidants, causing fire and explosion hazard.

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
    TLV not established.

    ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its vapour and by ingestion.

    INHALATION RISK:
No indication can be given about the rate in which a harmful concentration in the air is reached on evaporation of this substance at 20░C.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance and the vapour irritates the eyes and the skin.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
    PHYSICAL
    PROPERTIES
    Boiling point: 157-159░C
    Relative density (water = 1): 0.97
    Solubility in water: reaction
    Flash point: 54░C c.c.
Explosive limits, vol% in air: see Notes
    ENVIRONMENTAL
    DATA

    N O T E S
Explosive limits are unknown in literature, although the substance is combustible and has a flash point <61░C. Do NOT use in the vicinity of a fire or a hot surface, or during welding.
